Please note, holiday hours are subject to change. MOST Island businesses will close early on Christmas Eve, Friday, December 24, and are closed on Christmas Day, Saturday, December 25. See this Gazette post for an updated list of which restaurants are open over the holidays for dine-in or take-out.
Eel Town Oysters — Derive their sweet flavor from the pristine waters of Noyack Bay, where they’re surface-grown in an aquaculture farm. Swift currents create a polished oyster with balanced salinity. Eel Town, named for the Shelter Island neighborhood, delivers to your door or can arrange pickup. Marie Eiffel Market — Isn’t just about prepared foods. You can also find cookbooks and epicurean delights, including international gourmet treats like specialty condiments, pasta and sauces, cured meats, and artisanal cheeses. Wrap your purchases in one of Marie’s signature reusable shopping totes. At 184 North Ferry Road (Bridge Street), the market is usually open Wednesday to Monday from 7 AM to 5 PM (until 6 PM on Friday and Saturday). Find details and order online at Marie Eiffel Market. Peeko Oysters — Harvested from Peconic Bay, Peekos are deep-cupped and sweet with a touch of gentle brine. Perfect to bring to a holiday party; you can also place an order for delivery as a gift or select a gift card for your recipient to use later. Shelter Island Wine & Spirits — This small shop abounds with options for your host or hostess gift, the seasoned scotch drinker, or collector of fine wines. It has an extensive selection of wine and spirits, including old world, new world, and local wines, classic and aged spirits, small-batch distillery spirits, and the latest canned cocktails. And, the staff can order special items for you. Drop-in at 179 North Ferry Road (Bridge Street), or call 631-749-0305. Usually, open daily from 10 AM to 7 PM, except Sundays when noon to 5 PM.
STARs Café — Pepe & Lydia know coffee! Custom gift baskets with branded mugs, biscotti, and freshly roasted coffee are sure to bring a smile to the coffee enthusiast on your holiday list. You can also shop the café, at 17 Grand Avenue, for branded T-shirts, caps, and baby onesies, and choose from an array of bread, granola, cookies, pastries, and other treats.
