Sylvester Manor marks Juneteenth with ‘Call Their Names’ ceremony

Sylvester Manor marks Juneteenth with “Call Their Names,” a ceremony at the Afro-Indigenous Burial Ground.

Over 200 people of color are buried there in unmarked graves. Manor researchers have gathered information and stories of some 50 individuals, including their names and facts about their lives.

Donnamarie Barnes, Sylvester Manor’s director of History & Heritage, will give a short talk and provide a tour of the Burial Ground. A ceremony follows, including “a traditional libation homage to the ancestors.”

All are welcome to attend at Sylvester Manor on Saturday, June 17, from noon to 1:30 PM. The free event is open to the public.
