Primary early voting begins Saturday, June 17; primary day is Tuesday, June 27

Primary early voting begins Saturday, June 17. Shelter Island voters can cast ballots at five Suffolk County polling places in Towns where primaries are being held for local government offices.

On Shelter Island, Supervisor Gerry Siller faces challenger Gordon Gooding. The primary winner will face the Republican pick for supervisor, Amber Brach-Williams, the current deputy supervisor.

For Shelter Island Town Council, three Democratic candidates are running for two spots to face the two Republican challengers on the November ballot. The Shelter Island Democratic Committee selected two candidates, Bert Waife, who operates a mooring business and an oyster farm, and Albert Dickson, a former councilman seeking to return to the board after retiring at the end of 2021.

But Benjamin Dyett, a member of the Sylvester Manor board who serves on the Comprehensive Plan Committee, also threw his hat in the ring, forcing a Democratic primary for the Town Board candidacy. As a result, the top two vote-getters will appear on the November ballot opposite Republican candidates Tom Cronin, a retired SIPD officer, and former Town Supervisor Art Williams.

Primary day is Tuesday, June 27, with voting from 6 AM to 9 PM, but voters must report to their home polling place.
