Elections

Information about elections and voting.

It took longer than expected, but the Board of Elections has issued its official figures, confirming that Amber Brach-Williams is the Town of Shelter Island Supervisor-elect.
Unofficially, Amber Brach-Williams, who ran on the Republican and Conservative lines, has won the Supervisor race, 803 to 757, beating Democrat Gordon Gooding.
Unofficially, Amber Brach-Williams has an insurmountable lead for Supervisor, 794 to 749 over Democrat Gordon Gooding, with just 18 affidavit ballots remaining to count.
Here's another BOE election update, fast on the heels of yesterday's data. Yikes! We are swearing off reporting figures until the final tally is in!
VOTE
In a correction, a Board of Elections representative says that just 38 votes remain uncounted in Shelter Island's election. That means, while a few more ballots may trickle in, the margins of 44 votes between Supervisor candidates and 43 between Town Council candidates are less likely to be overcome.
Results in limbo following vote
General Election results for contested races in Shelter Island remained in limbo Wednesday, with a Suffolk County Board of Elections (BOE) representative reporting at least 212 absentee ballots as yet uncounted.
Early voting begins Saturday, October 28, and runs for 10 days in the lead-up to the 2023 General Election on Tuesday, November 7.
Nominees for Town Supervisor and two open Town Board seats are scheduled to take part in a candidates debate at the Shelter Island School on Sunday, October 22, from 1 to 3 PM.
