Elections

Information about elections and voting.

Island poll workers, new and seasoned, will spend Election Day in the school gym guiding voters through the process of casting their ballots. Voters will see newcomers along with familiar faces.
New Yorkers can now request absentee ballots online. The new online portal — good only for registered voters — streamlines the processing for voting by absentee ballot in the November general election.
With the NYS 1st Senate District up for grabs, it's time to meet the candidates vying for the post held by Kenneth LaValle, who announced his retirement in January.
The Suffolk County Board of Elections has posted new rules for New Yorkers who want to take part in the presidential primary and vote by absentee ballot. The new protocols are in keeping with executive orders issued by Governor Andrew M. Cuomo.
The Suffolk County Board of Elections has updated election results after counting absentee and other ballots, says Heather Reylek, Shelter Island Democratic Committee chair. They confirm the Election Day results: Gerry Siller for Superintendent and Mike Bebon and Jim Colligan for Town Council, Reylek says.
Shelter Island voters overwhelmingly picked Democratic challenger Gerry Siller to be the next Town Supervisor. Siller, who held the post decades ago, beat one-term Republican incumbent Gary Gerth by 700-514 votes and led an apparent Democratic sweep in races for the top Town spots.
2019 Shelter Island ballot
The 2019 Shelter Island ballot includes choices for Town positions, as well as for County-wide offices, and District and Family Court judges. Whether you take part in early voting, or show up on Election Day, all are welcome to join the Island's traditional nonpartisan social events surrounding the election.
The Suffolk County Board of Elections is rolling out early voting for New York's general election. That means we're no longer limited to one day of voting. Instead, we'll have numerous chances to weigh in (but still get just one vote per person!) And during early voting, we can cast our ballots from any early voting location in Suffolk County.
