The Shelter Island Educational Foundation hosts its annual Garden Party at The Ram’s Head Inn, featuring a silent auction and 50/50 raffle. There will be hors d’oeuvres, drinks, excellent company, and gorgeous views.

The proceeds support the foundation’s efforts to expand educational opportunities for Island students.

The event is Sunday, July 30, from 4 to 6 PM. Tickets, $75 per person, are available on SIEF’s website. You’re also welcome to make a tax-deductible donation if you can’t attend.

Founded in 1995, SIEF is run by volunteers. It relies wholly on private donations to provide grants that enrich educational opportunities for Island students.

“The Foundation seeks to go beyond the boundaries of local school district budgetary obligations and geographic isolation, augmenting the resources of individual teachers, family, and community, and nourishing our unique Island heritage,” SIEF says on its website.

The goal? To help “children chart a productive course from their own abundant shores to the boundless world of knowledge and understanding.”

Shelter Island Educational Foundation grants

Thanks to SIEF grants, students have explored individual passions in the arts, dance, athletics, and political science — the possibilities are endless. Grants have supported:

  • travel abroad to destinations like Spain, Morocco, and Australia
  • adventures to National Parks
  • space camp in Alabama
  • sailing on a schooner to Martha’s Vineyard
  • coding instruction at NYIT
  • visits to historical sites in Philadelphia and New York City
  • cultural events such as Broadway shows and the Opera at the MET
  • and so much more!
