As we move into winter’s final weeks, there are exciting opportunities during March at Mashomack Preserve.

Want to get your hands dirty volunteering? You can do that. The same goes for exploring our shoreline under the light of the full moon. Check out Mashomack Preserve offerings below.

Volunteer workdays

Sign up for one of Mashomack Preserve’s volunteer workdays and spend time out on the trails helping to improve habitats for wildlife and access for visitors.

  • Nestbox Cleanout, Saturday, March 5 from 1 to 4 PM
  • Trail Maintenance, Friday, March 11 from 9 AM to noon
  • Visitor Center Spring Cleanup, Saturday, March 26 from 9 AM to noon

Guided Full Moon Hike

Lace up your boots, grab your flashlight, and join the exploration of Mashomack’s shoreline and seaside forest under the light of the full moon.

Mashomack team members will lead visitors on a half-mile walk. Explore the effects of climate change, sea-level rise, and erosion along our coast while enjoying the beauty of winter’s last full moon.

Friday, March 18, from 7:30 to 9 PM.

Book in the Woods

The Mashomack Preserve Book in the Woods for March is “If You Find a Rock” by Peggy Christian. Pages are posted along the family-friendly half-mile Red Trail. Learn about wish rocks, skipping rocks, chalk rocks, climbing rocks — many are waiting to be found and enjoyed.

Beautifully photographed by Barbara Hirsch Lember, this book captures the wonder that special rocks can call up in all of us. A perfect family nature adventure and a great way to get your kids into the outdoors.
