Initial 2027 NFL Draft board features top prospects like Jeremiah Smith and Arch Manning
With the college football season underway, initial assessments for the 2027 NFL Draft are highlighting several key players. Among the top prospects are wide receivers and quarterbacks, with some familiar names appearing high on the list.
Jeremiah Smith, a wide receiver from Ohio State, is currently ranked as the top prospect. Known for his physical attributes and understanding of the game, Smith is considered a highly polished receiver. He will turn 21 in November and has been compared to Andre Johnson.
Following Smith is Leonard Moore, a cornerback from Notre Dame. Moore is noted for his athleticism and production, having recorded seven interceptions and 18 passes defended over 26 college games. He is recognized as a strong man-to-man corner, though consistency in tackling could further enhance his game.
Quarterback Prospects and Rising Stars
Arch Manning, quarterback for Texas, is positioned fourth on the initial board. His high ranking is attributed to his pedigree and physical traits. While he experienced some struggles early last season, Manning showed significant improvement later in the year, particularly in the bowl win against Michigan. His athletic abilities, including scrambling and throwing off-balance, were evident in that performance. Defensive and Offensive Line Talent
The defensive side of the ball features strong prospects like Dylan Stewart, an edge rusher from South Carolina, and Colin Simmons, an edge rusher from Texas. Stewart, standing 6-foot-6 and 247 pounds, is known for his elite get-off and disruptive play, including six forced fumbles over the past two seasons. Simmons is a consistent source of pressure, accumulating 21 sacks and 26 tackles for loss in his first two seasons. Both are considered top-tier edge rushers.
On the defensive interior, Will Echoles, a defensive tackle from Ole Miss, is highlighted. The 6-foot-3, 315-pound Echoles is a powerful player with violent hands, excelling as a run defender and impacting passing downs with five sacks and 39 pressures last season. He was named Sugar Bowl Defensive MVP against Georgia.
The offensive line also presents notable talent, including Trevor Goosby, an offensive tackle from Texas. Goosby, at 6-foot-7 and 325 pounds, possesses the ideal size, length, and athleticism for a left tackle, having stepped in for an injured teammate and performed well.
