St. Mary’s Episcopal Church prepares for St. Nicholas Fair

With the holiday season upon us, the red-robed, white-bearded saint will make an appearance at the St. Nicholas Fair on Saturday, December 4 from 9 AM to 3 PM. Grab your mask, a pair of gloves, and a coffee can and fill it up with homemade cookies at the Cookie Walk.

Because St. Nick can’t bake all those cookies himself, the Episcopal Church Women of St. Mary’s are looking for bakers. Drop off cookies by Saturday, December 4 at 9 AM.

Please contact Rhonda Burns at the St. Mary’s office for details: 631-749-0770 or stmarys11964@optonline.net

You can also try your luck at the ECW raffle featuring prizes from the vendors. Craftspeople and other vendors will sell their wares. Vendor tables are available both indoors and out. To reserve yours, call Meredith Page soon at 631-433-1504 or email her at merpage@msn.com. Fees are:

  • Indoors, for a half a table, 4 feet by 30 inches, $30, and full table, 8 feet by 30 inches, $50
  • Outdoors, for a booth space 12 feet by 12 feet, $30, supply your own tent and table (non-refundable)

The Episcopal Women of St. Mary’s host the event. Proceeds support local charities including Shelter Island Fire Department, Ambulance Foundation, Educational Foundation, Senior Citizens Foundation, Senior Nutrition Program, Library, Food Pantry, All-Faith Youth Group, Community Chorus,  Island Gift of Life, East End Hospice, The Retreat, and Eastern Long Island Hospital.

Christmas Community Dinner

This year, the Community Christmas Dinner at St. Mary’s will be a hybrid event with some people coming together and others receiving deliveries.

Last year, over 60 volunteers cooked, packed, and delivered dinners to grateful seniors around the Island. We hope to return to some form of the traditional Community Potluck of years past, where everyone brings a dish to share with family and friends. The church will provide turkey, mashed potatoes, and gravy.

Volunteers will still make deliveries to seniors and the homebound. Call the Senior Center, 631-749-1059, to join the list for home delivery. Donations are always appreciated, whether it’s turkeys, cookies, or cash.

Please mail to St. Mary’s at PO Box 660, Shelter Island, NY 11964. For checks, please put Christmas Dinner in the memo.

Volunteers are needed for the Christmas Dinner. Contact Rhonda at the church office, 631-749-0770, if you’d like to volunteer.

Join us at St. Mary’s Parish Hall for these events when we welcome back some of our Island traditions.
