Shelter Island Fireworks presents a Fireworks by Grucci show at Crescent Beach on Saturday, July 8. All are welcome to attend and also to support the organization as it continues a longstanding Island tradition.

“Shelter Island Fireworks, Inc. was started in 2015 with the sole mission to continue the legacy of the beloved Shelter Island Fireworks show on Crescent Beach for generations to come,” says Cat Brigham, president of the nonprofit. “As we are 100 percent donor funded, it truly takes a community to launch the fireworks year after year.”

The annual celebration was originally organized by the local Chamber of Commerce, which ceded the duty to the fireworks nonprofit.

“Every year, thousands of residents and visitors gather at Crescent Beach to witness a dazzling display of fireworks that lights up the night sky and fills hearts with joy and wonder,” Brigham says. “Our community supporters and volunteers help by sharing their unique talents, time, businesses, and resources.”

The fireworks show begins at dark — roughly 9:15 PM. But you should plan to get there early to secure a spot on the beach for viewing the show and enjoy the pre-show vibe.

Please note the road leading to the beach may be closed except for handicapped drop-off once street parking there is at capacity. You’ll be directed to park instead on a fenced area of the golf course at Shelter Island Country Club and walk down the hill to the beach.

The Shelter Island Police Department, assisted by other agencies, will be enforcing no-parking areas, which are necessary in order to maintain safety. Also, the beach between the lifeguard station and restrooms has been designated as the family area. Please be a good neighbor and follow the rules.

If you plan to attend by boat, SIPD harbormasters will be working with other marine agencies to enforce a no-anchor zone around the fireworks barge. If you’re not familiar with the waters off Crescent Beach, it’s worth noting that a combination of deep water and strong currents makes anchoring a bit of a challenge, so leave yourself plenty of time to find a suitable spot.

Sponsors and donors are encouraged!

Businesses, organizations, and individuals are encouraged to become sponsors. The nonprofit offers several sponsorship levels to accommodate a variety of budgets and preferences. Follow this link for details.

Individuals may donate to the show at shelterislandfireworks.com. And you can attend a fireworks fundraiser on Friday, July 7, from 6 to 11 PM at SALT Waterfront Bar & Grill at the Island Boatyard. The event, billed as “the biggest part of the year,” features live music, a raffle, a 50/50, and a silent auction, as well as Shelter Island Fireworks merchandise for sale.

“Organizing an event of this magnitude requires substantial financial resources,” Brigham says. “We rely on the support and generosity of local businesses and community members like you to make this event possible.”
