Little League registration is underway for the 2022 season, with opportunities for players ages 4 to 12 in Baseball, Softball, C-Ball, and Tee Ball.
Sign up to be part of the Shelter Island teams through the North Fork Little League system. Practices and games occur at Fiske Field and nearby North Fork towns.
Laurene Meehan is the Shelter Island Little League director for the 2022 season. Meehan came from a baseball family and said she knows the importance of keeping sports opportunities available to kids.
“Both my kids have aged out of the League, but they started in C-Ball and made their way to the majors,” she said.
To register, parents/guardians should sign their kids up on the North Fork Little League website. Create a new account or use an existing account to complete registration. The deadline is March 1.
Choosing the correct League option
The League creates teams based on age and experience. To join, children must be age 4 by August 1. Use this chart to determine the correct age group for your child. The teams are as follows:
- Tee Ball, boys and girls combined ages 4 to 7
- Coach Pitch (C-Ball), boys and girls combined ages 7 to 12
- Minors Baseball, boys and girls combined ages 7 to 12
- Majors Baseball, boys ages 9 to 12
- Majors Softball, girls ages 9 to 12
- The registration fee is $125; for families with two or more children, the total fee is $175. Financial assistance is available; to inquire, contact Laurene at 917-690-3252.
