You don’t need a boat on Shelter Island to enjoy the fishing. Surfcasting off our shores can produce bluefish, keeper bass, sand sharks and other local species.
The Sylvester Manor 2018 farm crew has been busy for weeks working in Windmill Field. The crew — three apprentices and one full-season WWOOFer — are working under the direction of Windmill Field Manager Jocelyn Craig. Head over to the opening of the farm stand this weekend to say hello to these dedicated young farmers.
In a sign that spring has finally sprung, there are turtles everywhere. Especially in the middle of roads where they go to warm up before embarking on other turtle activities. So, keep an eye out. These beneficial wild critters can live 100 years or more and deserve to be given wide berth.
Back by popular demand, the Shelter Island Public Library will again host Great Decisions series of foreign policy discussions. Beginning in May, Great Decisions will bring together people to talk about U.S. foreign policy and world tensions. Eight sessions are planned over six months.
