We’ve been posting about what’s open for takeout/delivery since March 20. Needless to say, a lot has happened since then. Our local eateries have risen to the pandemic challenge and, as reopening expands, many are offering onsite outdoor dining.
In alphabetical order, here’s a fresh look at what’s open for eats:
1. Commander Cody’s Seafood Market & Restaurant
Commander Cody’s Seafood Market & Restaurant offers fresh fish and seafood to cook at home, as well as amazing BBQ and southern-style seafood meals for takeout (and sometimes delivery). The menu is posted on Commander Cody’s Facebook page, along with specials. Be sure to ask about desserts.

2. Eagle Deli
For breakfast, for lunch, for a quick grab-and-go snack, try the Eagle Deli. The grill crew makes a great egg sandwich, and there’s plenty of options for drinks, chips, ice cream treats and more. Call ahead for quick pickup.

3. Flying Goat
Flying Goat is now open for takeout Saturday and Sunday, Noon to 7PM. Look for the double decker turkey club sandwich, kale caesar salad, and surf and turf dinner specials. Indoor and porch dining with some of the the best views on Shelter Island come with your dinning experience. Reservations are highly recommended.

4. 18 Bay Restaurant
18 Bay has seamlessly pivoted from serving fixed price Italian-inspired four-course meals to providing a composed chef’s menu for curbside takeout or delivery on Saturday nights. The menu is posted midweek with instructions for ordering; recent options were Chicken Agnolotti, Braised Beef Short Ribs or Roast Market Fish. Yum!

5. Elli’s Country Store
I’ll take mine with the works! The full menu, including delicious burgers and deli sandwiches, is available for takeout. Don’t forget to pick up your loyalty card — after nine sandwiches, get one free.

6. The Islander
Whether you need a quick bite or want to feed the entire family, The Islander has got you covered. Serving breakfast and lunch starting at 7AM and now dinner six nights a week until 8PM (closes at 3PM Sunday). Enjoy Burger Night and new family-style meals. Curbside pickup or delivery.

7. The Islander food truck
Now you can enjoy the Islander’s family-friendly cuisine right at the beach. Visit the Islander food truck at Crescent Beach, serving favorite beach grub from hots and hamburgers to lobster rolls and cod tacos, along with ice-cold beverages. Daily 11AM to 5:30PM. Watch for the Islander food truck coming soon to Wades Beach, too!

8. Isola Restaurant
What’s that amazing aroma wafting through the Heights? Perhaps a rib-eye, thin-crust personal pizza or any one of the wood-fired entrées from the Isola’s Italian-inspired menu. We work next door and it gets very hard to concentrate once the oven is lit. Seasonal dishes with the freshest East End ingredients. Open Tuesday to Saturday from 5pm, outdoor dinning, take-out & curbside pickup. Call or order online.

9. Maria’s Kitchen
Full of heart, Maria’s Kitchen offers delicious Mexican homestyle cuisine at great prices. Excellent tacos, quesadillas, burritos, salads and more. Always fresh and tasty. Juices and smoothies, too. Open daily 8AM to 8PM for take-out and limited outdoor seating.

10. Marie Eiffel Market
Many of your favorite Marie Eiffel Market menu items are available Thursday to Monday, 9AM to 5PM with online ordering for curbside pickup, and limited in-store shopping. Sit on the back deck and enjoy the view of Dering Harbor. Marie is also serving takeout pizza dinners on Tuesdays and chicken dinners on Wednesdays.

11. Ram’s Head Inn
The Ram’s Head Inn is now providing outdoor dining and takeout daily. And, you can enjoy live music while you eat with streaming performances by some Harbor Hall favorites.

12. Salt Waterfront Bar and Grill
Enjoy a taste of summer with all of the SALT bestsellers, now available for takeout, including lobster rolls and jalapeño margaritas for the beach; fish taco and pain killers for by the pool; or bucket of beers for aboard the boat. Place takeout orders with touch-less pay Thursday through Monday, 4 to 9PM, Saturday and Sunday, noon to 9PM.

13. Shelter Island Pharmacy Soda Fountain
The menu hasn’t changed and the warm welcome is the same, but the pharmacy soda fountain is all takeout now. Open Monday to Saturday, 9AM to 1:30PM. Call in your order for curbside pickup.

14. Shelter Island Slice Pizza
Shelter Island Slice is open for business thanks to Frank Venesina, formerly of Conca D’Oro in Sag Harbor. All the traditional toppings for pizza, as well as sandwiches, salads, beer and wine. Order in advance by telephone. You’ll be given an order number and an estimated time for pickup. Limited outdoor seating. (We can’t wait to eat inside the fully-renovated space — it looks really great!)

15. Stars Café
Serving breakfast and lunch with a Tex-Mex twist, Stars Café also has freshly baked muffins, bagels, and pastries. You can get egg dishes, sandwiches, salads, soups, tacos and more, along with specialty roasted coffee. Catering and custom cakes, too. Call to order. Three customers at a time inside to pay and pick up. Some sidewalk seating.

16. The Tuck Shop
John Sieni completed the renovations just in time for Memorial Day weekend. This Shelter Island establishment serves dozens of flavors of scooped ice cream, as well as soft-serve. All the classic cones and toppings plus locally-themed combinations like the Ferry Fun Sundae and Mashomack S’mores. Do you love espresso-based beverages? Tuck Shop baristas will mix up your favorites. Once eat-in is permitted, Sieni will add café seating to the charming black-and-white tiled space.

17. Vine Street Café and Market
Phones have been ringing off the hook at Vine Street Café, where in addition to dinner you can now order homemade raspberry and pineapple passion elixirs for the perfect Bellini. Those who prefer spirits can choose a handcrafted cocktail for two: a VSC Machete, Double Manhattan or the Rx Margarita. Place orders all day until 8PM for free delivery on Shelter Island. You can also visit VSC Market for specialty items and prepare at home favorites.
