Suffolk County officials reported 7,605 confirmed COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, and said another 16 resident have died bringing the countywide death toll to 69. Local officials say there are two known cases on Shelter Island.
To date, more than 19,300 tests have been administered for infection by the novel coronavirus. That’s up by about 1,700 from the day before. The county report does not indicate how many people have been tested, rather how many tests have been administered.
The number of confirmed cases rose by 892 from the day before. In all, 897 people were hospitalized, up 189 from the day before, including 272 reported to need treatment in an intensive care unit (up 43).

Deaths
The 16 Suffolk County residents who died overnight all were reported to have underlying health conditions and were in mandatory isolation in local hospitals. The following basic descriptions were provided:
- One woman in her 50s; another woman in her 70s; and four women in their 80s
- One man in his 60s; four men in their 70s; four men in their 80s; and one man in his 90s
