The Shelter Island Bucks have hired Taylor ‘Shooter’ Hasty to be the coach for the 2022 Hamptons Collegiate Baseball League season.

Bucks General Manager Brian Cass announced the hire as the team eyes a return to HCBL this summer after a two-year COVID hiatus. Hasty has many years of experience coaching baseball at both the high school and college levels.

He coached the Division II Bryan College Lions for six years and in 2012 led them to a remarkable 38-13 record overall. That year his team was 21-6 in the regular season and captured their first-ever Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) championship.

Because of his efforts, in 2012 Hasty received AAC Coach of the Year. He was also the two-time Tennessee Baseball Coaches Association Coach of the Year for the NAIA.

“Receiving the Coach of the Year award was a great honor, not only for me but for our coaching staff and our players,” Hasty said, at the time. “Awards like that are a recognition of our program more than they are the work of one person!”

Currently, Hasty is the Athletic Director at Silverdale Baptist Academy, a private Pre-K to 12 school in Chattanooga, TN.

The Bucks have lined up some housing for players and coaches, but are in need of a few more host families. If you’re interested in supplying a member of the Bucks with a bed, room in the fridge, and access to laundry for the eight-week summer season, please contact Cass at 631-445-0084.
