About Emily Rose Larsen

Larsen was born and raised on Shelter Island. As an artist, she has an “enduring interest in the space between human experience and reality. The intangible fuzzy cloud that allows us to continue forward as we rotate between functional ignorance and the horror of realization.”

She earned a BFA in Photography at the School of Visual Arts and a BA in Philosophy at Flagler College. Her work is in private collections and has been exhibited internationally.

Works in the exhibit will primarily be from her “To MY Daughter” and “Beastly” series. See them displayed in the historic inn’s public spaces through early July. Learn more about the artist on her website, www.emilyroselarsen.com.

After reopening last year following extensive rehabilitation, The Chequit began its Summer Art series. The program showcases the work of East End artists. Larsen’s exhibit launches the second season of this artist-in-residence program.

The Chequit’s subsequent exhibit will feature work by Casey Chalem.

About The Chequit

The inn, built as a meeting hall in 1872, soon morphed into what residents of nearby cottages called “The Restaurant.” By 1909, it had been transformed into an inn. Known for its live music and late-night cocktail parties, The Chequit drew a celebrity following. It hosted stars like Marilyn Monroe and Arthur Miller (and, rumor has it, Frank Sinatra).

The Chequit officially reopened on Memorial Day weekend of 2022. The main building features 19 renovated guest rooms, and two adjacent buildings have another 16.

The inn’s food and beverage program has two distinct dining rooms, Weakfish and The Tavern. They share one menu inspired by new Asian and American cuisine. There are multiple outdoor dining spaces with enchanting water views of Dering Harbor.

The Chequit, with outdoor dining, hosts an exhibit featuring Emily Rose Larsen art.

In addition, the Heights Café & Wine Bar offers morning coffee and freshly-baked pastries. In mid-afternoon, it becomes a wine bar, serving vino along with cheese boards and small bites.
