Join a fundraising sunset ferry cruise for Strongpoint Theinert Ranch

Join a fundraising sunset ferry cruise to benefit the Strongpoint Theinert Ranch, a retreat for active and veteran military members and their families honoring U.S. Army 1st Lt. Joseph J. Theinert.

The Shelter Islander, who, like so many kids here, worked as a South Ferry deck hand, was killed in action at age 24 in Afghanistan.

It takes place Saturday, September 24 from 4 to 8 PM aboard the Lt. Joe Theinert. The cost is $100 per person, and capacity is limited to 150, so order your tickets while supplies last.

The cruise includes live music by Sara Mundy & Friends, as well as food and drinks.

“This will be our first cruise since July of 2019, and we are so happy to have this event back on the calendar,” the Theinert/Kestler family says in the event notice. “Join us for a sunset cruise to celebrate Joe and hear how his legacy lives on through the mission of Strongpoint Theinert Ranch.”

About Strongpoint Theinert Ranch

Dr. Francis “Doc” Kestler and Chrystyna Kestler knew they wanted to continue Joe’s legacy of caring for his platoon. During his deployment in March of 2010, Joe’s primary goal was to bring everyone home safe. While none of Joe’s men were physically injured during their year-long deployment, they lost their leader when Joe was killed by an improvised explosive device.

The family created Strongpoint Theinert Ranch as a retreat for active and veteran military members and their families to rejuvenate their minds, bodies, and spirits. The ranch, initially operated out of the family’s modest house, recently completed the construction of a new bunkhouse, enabling it to expand programming. (Read our coverage of the bunkhouse project in this post.)

Currently, STR retreats are made possible thanks to generous donors to the Joseph J. Theinert Memorial Fund, which underwrites all guest travel and retreat expenses. This averages $750 per person and covers round-trip travel, meals, and equipment.

If you aren’t able to join the ferry cruise, consider a donation to benefit Strongpoint Theinert Ranch. Learn more at www.strongpointtheinert.org.
