England achieved a 3-0 Test series whitewash against Pakistan, securing an eight-wicket victory in the third Test at Edgbaston. The 3-0 whitewash provides a significant boost for England, especially after a period of instability that included a series loss to New Zealand and the departures of head coach Brendon McCullum and captain Stokes. Root expressed his delight with the series win, emphasizing that it sets the team up well for a new era with incoming head coach Stephen Fleming.
Several England players contributed to the series victory. Jordan Cox, despite a cheap dismissal in the first innings, made a nerveless unbeaten 59 in the chase. His impressive effort with the gloves, taking five dismissals after being called upon due to Jamie Smith’s injury, may have given selectors reason to consider him for the role. Harry Brook finished as the leading run-scorer in the series with 215 runs at 53.75, including a mature knock of 75. Dan Lawrence, batting with confidence, scored a measured 65, and his batting average of 46.75 will aid his winter touring prospects.
On the bowling front, Ollie Robinson finished the series with 21 wickets at 8.76, demonstrating his control with the Dukes ball. Josh Tongue continued to be a vital part of the team, taking 4-42 in the first innings and a total of 19 wickets across all three Tests. Jofra Archer bowled with aggression, taking a brutal ball to dismiss Saud Shakeel.
