Kevin Patrick Brooks, a resident of Shelter Island and Brooklyn, died at Stony Brook Southampton Hospital on April 3, 2025 from complications of COVID-19. He was 75. His devoted wife of 53 years was at his side.

Cythia P. Labrozzi of Shelter Island died at home on Monday, December 9, 2019. She was 77. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 14, 2 p.m. at the Shelter Island Presbyterian Church.
Valerie Shepherd, 70, of Shelter Island, died in a single-car accident on North Ferry Road on Friday about 2 p.m., the Shelter Island Police Department says. She was the sole occupant of the vehicle. It left the road near to where it passes Sylvester Manor's Quaker Meeting and crashed into a tree.
Susan Kamil, a celebrated editor and publisher, has died at age 69. She was executive vice president and publisher of Random House, and published Salman Rushdie, Ta-Nehisi Coates, Elizabeth Strout, Sophie Kinsella and Ruth Reichl, among many others. She and her husband, Robert Kohn, lived in New York City and on Shelter Island, where a private funeral service was held Thursday.
