Out of an abundance of caution, these Shelter Island entities and organizations announce these cancellations and closings:
- American Legion Mitchell Post 281/Shelter Island Fire Department — cancelled gatherings
- The Dinner Bell — Shelter Island Senior Services is making arrangements to provide home-delivered meals to all Dinner Bell participants on Mondays and Fridays
- Gardiner’s Bay Country Club — postponed opening until May 1
- Mashomack Preserve — cancelled programs through April, but trails are open 8AM to 6PM daily; Visitor Center and bathrooms are closed, visit nature.org for details
- Shelter Island Chamber of Commerce — cancelled networking event, Tuesday, March 31
- Shelter Island Democrats — cancelled ‘Meet your Congressional Candidates’, March 21, and May 3 party fundraiser
- Shelter Island Early Childhood Learning Center — follows school closures and is closed at least through March
- Shelter Island Fire Department — cancelled annual steak dinner, March 21
- Shelter Island FIT Center — closed until further notice, accommodations are in the works for patients requiring physical therapy services
- Shelter Island Friends of Music — no April concert
- Shelter Island History Center — closed until further notice; Helena Hernmarck tapestry workshop for children is cancelled
- Shelter Island Lions Club — cancelled the monthly dinner meeting for March
- Shelter Island Presbyterian Church — cancelled Sunday services and Juniata College Concert Choir, March 22
- Shelter Island Public Library — follows school closures and is closed until further notice; use your library card to access online resources at shelterislandpubliclibrary.org
- Shelter Island Senior Activity Center — closed until further notice, program coordinators are working with local officials to augment outreach programs for seniors
- Shelter Island School — closed at least through April 15; school musical postponed
- Shelter Island Town Hall — the public may attend meetings via livestream service with options to call in comments or send them by email, but not in person. Committee meetings suspended, or held via Zoom conferencing platform, until further notice
- Shelter Island Youth Center — closed until further notice
- Sylvester Manor Educational Farm — concerts and gatherings postponed, including the annual Farm to Table Benefit, but the grounds are open for walking and you can sign up for summer CSA farm shares at sylvestermanor.org
