The Shelter Island Action Alliance — which leaped into the breach during the height of the pandemic shutdown to help Island restaurants stay afloat while feeding frontline medical workers — is teaming up with SALT Waterfront Bar & Grill for a fundraiser.
The theme is a classic lobster bake and BBQ, which will be served up outdoors at SALT’s Shipwreck Bar on Wednesday, August 12, from 4 to 9 PM. The cost is $42 with proceeds supporting the Shelter Island Action Alliance. Shelter Island Action Alliance co-founder Brett Surerus says the event will kick off new initiatives to support local businesses and residents alike. Surerus and Alex Graham created the alliance in March as a way to keep restaurant kitchens busy during when the novel coronavirus shutdown began. Donors supplied funds that restaurants used to fill orders for fresh meals that alliance volunteers delivered to our area hospitals.
The nonprofit has expanded its operations to include support for programs that provide meals to Island seniors and families in need.
