Sign up for the Shelter Island COVID-19 vaccine booster POD that’s being organized for Tuesday, November 9 in the school gym. Health officials from Stony Brook Southampton Hospital will administer about 600 booster shots of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine by reservation only.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control says you can mix and match vaccination types (read the guidance here). You are eligible to register for the Shelter Island POD if your:

  • second dose of the the Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna vaccine was on or before April 25, 2021; or
  • single dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine was on or before August 26, 2021

Deputy Supervisor Amber Brach-Williams is coordinating the event for the Town of Shelter Island. She reminds all who plan to participate to bring along your vaccine card with you.

“The booster dose will be added to your current vaccine card for future reference and/or verification,” she said, announcing the POD. “If you absolutely cannot find your card, a new card can be prepared, but it will take more time for you and for the staff that day.”

The Shelter Island School will remain open for classes that day, but will not hold sessions in the gym or technology wing, Brach-Williams noted. The Town Board work session typically held on Tuesday at 1 PM, will be moved to Wednesday, November 10 at 1 PM.
