Shelter Island Educational Foundation announces $31K in fall grants

The Shelter Island Educational Foundation spring 2022 grants cycle is open; applications are due April 15.

The Shelter Island Educational Foundation (SIEF) is delighted to announce its fall grants total for 2021: $31,850.

We are pleased to support the Spain trip for the summer of 2022 with $1,300 for each applying teen’s academic and excursion programming. They’ll spend 10 days in the city of Seville and its surroundings with the Centro MundoLengua study abroad program.

In addition, a local 7th grader will also be traveling to Spain this winter for an amazing Madrid soccer experience.

Other grants awarded in the 2021 fall grants cycle support:

  • Immigrant and ethnic study in New York City
  • Elementary dance instruction
  • The DECA business NY State competition
  • Cheerleading stunt training
  • A trip back to Broadway for live theater
  • Rejoining Black Dog Tall Ships for the 7th grade sailing adventure

Fall grants mark return of adventurous opportunities

The SIEF board is glad to return to adventurous grant opportunities. Last winter, we gave each elementary student residing on Shelter Island an at-home KiwiCo kit. It was our small attempt to infuse education and fun while students were sheltered in place by COVID-19 protocols. Students built grabbers, art paint spinners, Big Ben replicas, and more.

There is still time to make your year-end 2021 gift. When you make a donation to the SIEF, you invest in Shelter Island’s children, our community, and our future. Please help us help our Island kids.

Our mission: The Shelter Island Educational Foundation pursues, creates, and provides excellent educational opportunities that enhance, inspire and broaden the horizons of our children and the community.

We would love to hear from you at PO Box 1950, Shelter Island, NY 11964. To learn more, visit shelterislandedfoundation.org.
