The PTSA Book Fair returns at the Shelter Island School after a long pandemic hiatus. Students will be able to browse at outdoor kiosks during school hours, and may shop with their families and members of the public after school.
Book Fair hours are 9 AM to 4 PM, Monday through Wednesday, May 17 to 19. Rain dates are Thursday and Friday. PTSA volunteers will set up and man the sale on the blacktop behind the school, next to the playground.
(Weather permitting, the Book Fair coincides with Tuesday’s vote for the school budget and board of trustees, which takes place rain or shine in the gym from noon to 9 PM.)
PTSA Book Fair: three ways to shop
The PTSA offers three ways to shop:
- e-Wallet, cashless e-transfers so kids don’t have to carry money
- cash/check sales on site
- online sales at this dedicated website through May 25
No matter how you shop, the proceeds support PTSA-sponsored programs and activities in the school.
In a note home to parents/guardians, the PTSA explained “your child will have a chance to browse the book fair on either Monday or Tuesday during school. They will likely come home with a ‘Wish List’ which should include the titles and prices of the books they liked.”
“It’s an opportunity to go over the list with your child and decide which books they can get,” the PTSA said. “Once you do that, you can either send money in with your child for them to use for their purchase (they will have a chance to shop during school), you can sign up for eWallet , or you can come shop at the fair with them after school. “
You can set up an eWallet account at bookfairs.scholastic.com.
COVID-19 precautions
COVID-19 protocols will be in place (masks and social distancing required) and there will be a limit to how many people can shop the fair at one time.
If you prefer, you can also shop the PTSA virtual book fair at shop.scholastic.com. Direct questions or comments to Vicki Shields, who is chairing the event. Reach her at wholehealthandfit@gmail.com.
