“A Hill of Beans” is a new local musical based on the story of the Shelter Island lima bean cooperative formed here in 1949 by a group of farmers and, as the Shelter Island Historical Society puts it, “one very savvy New York barrister.”

“A story of cooperation, innovation, and determination, with some love and drama mixed in,” SIHS says in the casting notice posted on its website.

“We invite you to be a part of this lively historical snapshot. A variety of talents and skills are needed. The musical will be presented July 2021 at the Shelter Island Historical Society and we are looking for people who would like to be part of the stage production — from actors, to stage hands, to costume help and more. COVID safety precautions will be in place.”
