The Shelter Island Gazette welcomes Julie O’Neill-Bliss! She joins our growing team as lifestyles and marketing director.

This is a new position here at the Island’s only locally owned and operated, independent online news organization. We directly serve our community with free access to information about what’s happening here on Shelter Island.

Our goal: provide a homegrown source of quality journalism that’s focused solely on this community.

Julie will support this mission by creating original and engaging content for our website, leading our marketing efforts, and managing our weekly newsletter, Life Between the Ferries.

About Julie O’Neill-Bliss

O’Neill-Bliss is a business and marketing professional with over 15 years of experience in start-up and historic companies. Most recently, she was director of sales and marketing for the Shelter Island 10K, and has served as marketing consultant for local businesses.

A native of Rochester, NY, she first came to Shelter Island in the 1990s as a weekend warrior, moving here for good in 2000. She married Islander Sebastian Bliss and with him was co-owner of Planet Bliss, a former Island restaurant. They have two children, Phoenix and Tola.

The Gazette team

Already onboard here at the Gazette is columnist Joanne Sherman, an award-winning writer who every other week posts musings on life in retirement in “Off the Cuff.” And, we welcome back Ebeth Lones, a freelance writer (now fully recovered from a broken leg), who’ll be contributing features about life on the Island.

With this additional support, I’ll be spending more time covering Island news, reporting on issues that matter most to Islanders. And my husband, Eddie, isn’t off the hook. As co-publisher, he’ll help me keep our business on track, and contribute stories, too.
