Hurricane Henri, now moving about 18 miles per hour, is due to pass east of us late this morning or early this afternoon, as it moves about 18 mph from its 5 AM Sunday position 80 miles south-southeast of Montauk, forecasters say.
The latest Town Hurricane Henri advisory from the Town of Shelter Island includes an expected landfall near East Hampton Sunday afternoon.
With Henri now a hurricane due to make landfall in our region on Sunday, the Town of Shelter Island has declared a state of emergency and ordered all roads closed from 6 AM Sunday to 6 AM Monday. The orders, issued by Supervisor Gerry Siller, also called for voluntary evacuation of Ram Island.
As Henri strengthens and heads north from its 5 AM position 555 miles south of Montauk, it is on track to possibly bring hurricane conditions, with a dangerous storm surge and flooding, here beginning tonight, the National Weather Service says.
As the Hurricane Warning continues, Henri is getting better organized and continues to head north from its 11 PM position 615 miles south of Montauk on track to bring hurricane conditions here late Saturday or Sunday, the National Weather Service says.

The National Weather Service has changed the path of Hurricane Henri. The current track of the puts the eye of the storm just to the west of Shelter Island.  
We are now under a Hurricane Warning, rather than a Watch, for Henri, which is on the cusp of becoming a hurricane as it gathers strength 695 miles south of Montauk on track to arrive here Sunday.
The National Weather Service on Friday morning issued a Hurricane Watch for Tropical Storm Henri, with storm surge possible, and an expected arrival in our area as early as Sunday.
