A letter from a past pandemic in the archives of the Shelter Island Historical Society gives of glimpse of what happened here during the Spanish Flu, which began in 1918 and lasted through 1920.

Garth Harrison Griffin of Shelter Island died at home on Monday, January 27, 2020. He was 66. The family will receive friends on Friday, January 31, 4 to 7PM at the Shelter Island Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, February 1, 1PM at the Shelter Island Presbyterian Church.
Sylvester Manor's new farm director
Sylvester Manor's new farm director Cristina Cosentino isn't entirely new to Shelter Island. She spent 2015 working as a Manor apprentice, farming and learning tractor and machinery maintenance.

Cythia P. Labrozzi of Shelter Island died at home on Monday, December 9, 2019. She was 77. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 14, 2 p.m. at the Shelter Island Presbyterian Church.
Richie Surozenski. He's been a volunteer firefighter since 1965. Twice named fireman of the year, he twice served as chief. Surozenski looks after Taylor's Island, tends the Catholic cemetery, and is always willing to help those in need. For these and myriad other contributions, the Shelter Island Lions named him Citizen of the Year.
