Tickets on sale for ‘The Lords of Menantic’ community musical

Rehearsals are underway, and tickets are on sale for “The Lords of Menantic,” a new community musical at the Shelter Island History Center in July.

Described in the 19th century as “Lords by name and Lords by nature,” Shelter Island’s ship-building Lord family is the subject of a new musical by Lisa Shaw. It’s her third musical for the Historical Society based on local stories.

Performances are Thursday, July 20 through Sunday, July 23, at 6 PM on the outdoor stage at the History Center. Follow this link to purchase tickets, $75 per person.

The Lord household of three sea captains and two maiden sisters shared a beautiful estate on the Menantic peninsula, building and sailing boats hewn from stands of white oak. In 1804, one of their vessels, Paragon, ran through the Continental blockade delivering grain to England, and Captain Sam became a hero. But was he?

Join the amateur cast and crew for a musical journey back through time and get to know the Lord family of Shipyard Creek.
