Sylvester Manor resumes its Creekside Concert series with a very special performance by Tuba Skinny, a traditional jazz street band based in New Orleans that draws its inspiration from early jazz, ragtime and blues music of the 1920s and 1930s.

The concert takes place on Saturday, August 7 at 5:30 PM. Tickets, $35 per person, are available at sylvestermanor.org.

Formed in in 2009 by musicians who originally hailed from all over the U.S., Tuba Skinny has steadily evolved from a loose collection of street players into a solid ensemble dedicated to bringing the New Orleans sound to audiences around the world. Members include Shaye Cohn, cornet; Barnabus Jones, trombone; Todd Burdick, tuba, sousaphone, banjo and guitar; Max Bien-Kahn, guitar; Greg Sherman, guitar and vocals; Erika Lewis, vocals and bass drum; Craig Flory, clarinet; Robin Rapuzzi, percussion; Jason Lawrence, banjo; and Ewan Bleach, alto sax.

Drawing on a wide range of musical influences, they’ve gained a loyal following through their distinctive sound, their commitment to reviving long-lost songs, and their barnstorming live performances. You can sample their music on the band’s website, tubaskinny.com.
