Suffolk County: 37,570 confirmed COVID-19 cases

Suffolk County reported 37,570 confirmed COVID-19 cases Monday morning. The number of confirmed cases on Shelter Island was reported at six, but local officials say they know of eight cases.

As of 2:30PM on May 3, 1,256 individuals have died, including 29 whose deaths were reported since May 2. In all, 813 patients are hospitalized with COVID-19, a decrease of 38 from May 2. This marks 13 consecutive days of decline. Of that number, 324 required treatment in an intensive care unit, a decrease of 3 patients from the day before.

Note: The cases reported under Township Unknown may include patients who provided Post Office boxes as their addresses (which do not fit the county’s emergency response address format) or those who are currently staying in Suffolk County, but have their primary residence elsewhere.

*On Shelter Island, local officials say they know of eight cases including two patients who died, one who recovered and five active cases.

Suffolk County reported the following information related to COVID-19 through May 3, 2:30PM:

  • 98,749 COVID-19 tests have been administered, an addition of 2,521 tests since May 2
  • 35.3 percent of those tested were confirmed positive for COVID-19
  • In all, there are 3,274 hospital beds countywide, including 663 ICU beds
  • 77 additional patients were discharged from the hospital in the past 24 hours

Confirmed cases number now includes positive antibody tests. In all, 1,673 individuals not previously tested for COVID-19 have tested positive for COVID-19 antibodies, an addition of 409 from May 2.
