SIPD: Rewards offered for tips in two Island burglaries in April

The Shelter Island Police Department (SIPD) and Suffolk County Crime Stoppers are seeking the public’s help to identify and locate the people who burglarized two Silver Beach homes in April, offering rewards for tips that lead to arrests.

According to a report issued jointly on Monday by the SIPD and county Crime Stoppers unit, detectives believe multiple people entered two homes between April 10 and April 12. The responsible individual(s) caused light damage to the residence and stole alcoholic beverages, the report said.

At the second residence, the responsible individual(s) caused sustained substantial interior damage, starting a fire within the home, the report said. Alcohol was brought to the second residence and consumed.

A caller receives a code number and remains anonymous when giving information to a police offer. If a tip leads to an arrest, Suffolk County Crime Stoppers will authorize a reward of up to $5,000.
