SIPD: Amityville woman arrested in $100K theft case

The Shelter Island Police Department announced the arrest of a Jazmin M. Acevedo-Rodriguez, 36, of Amityville, in the alleged theft of more than $100K.

SIPD Detective Sergeant Jack H. Thilberg said in a news release Monday night the arrest followed “a several months-long investigation into the unauthorized use of a credit card account and theft of monies from a financial management account, in excess of $100,000 combined.”

Acevedo-Rodriguez was arrested Saturday, October 1 at 9:50 AM and charged with one count of grand larceny in the 2nd degree, with property value exceeding $50,000, and one count of identity theft in the 1st degree. The charges are class C and class D felonies, respectively.

She was processed and arraigned at Shelter Island Justice Court, where she was released on her own recognizance and directed to return at a later date.
