Shelter Island’s first COVID-19 deaths

Shelter Island’s first COVID-19 deaths were announced Saturday by the Town. The two men were hospitalized when they died, the announcement said.

“With a deep sense of loss and sorrow, the Town of Shelter Island announces the passing of both males from our community that were hospitalized with COVID-19,” the Town said in an announcement Saturday afternoon.

The news release was issued by Town information officer Jack H. Thilberg, detective sergeant of the Shelter Island Police Department and director of EMS. No additional information was provided.

“The Town reminds  everyone for the need of continual hand-washing and strict social distancing practices.”
