Shelter Island School

School district voting is on Tuesday, May 16 — are you registered? If not, the district holds in-person voter registration in the school lobby on Thursday, May 4, from 2 to 6 PM.

Anyone registered with the Suffolk County Board of Elections can vote in school elections. However, if you have not voted within the past four years, you must renew your registration with the school district clerk.

A person is entitled to vote if they are:

  1. A citizen of the United States
  2. At least 18 years old (by the day of the vote)
  3. A resident within the district for 30 days prior to the vote

New York State Law states that a person may claim only one residence for purposes of voting.

Voting for school budgets, board of education candidates, and other ballot initiatives occurs across the state on Tuesday, May 16. Here on Shelter Island, voting takes place in the school gym from noon to 9 PM.
