NYS: No golf, no boating — for now

There will be no golf, no boating — for now — under an order from the governor Thursday that added golf courses and marinas to the growing list of non-essential businesses shuttered due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

The news followed reports that 799 New Yorkers had died overnight from complications of the novel coronavirus — the highest single-day toll yet recorded. The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases statewide seems to be leveling off, Governor Andrew M. Cuomo said in his daily briefing. That is evidence that social distancing mandates seem to be working, he said.

Golf courses and “the use of boat launches and marinas for recreational vessels is not considered essential,” according to guidance that was updated Thursday. The governor’s mandates relating to non-essential businesses are in place through April 29.
