Learn about water-related issues in the Comprehensive Plan Update

Learn about the many issues relating to water in the Comprehensive Plan Update at a special meeting Thursday at the library.

Members of the Town’s Comprehensive Plan Task Force and Water Advisory Committee host a meeting to inform the community about a broad range of water-related issues. The topic: “Water on Shelter Island: A Comprehensive View.”

Coucilwomen BJ Ianfolla and Meg Larsen from the CPU Task Force will talk about the many water topics covered in the draft plan. The meeting is on Thursday, August 31, at 5 PM at the Shelter Island Public Library.

Their presentation is the latest in a series of public engagements with Water Advisory Committee members at the library this summer.

Draft chapters of the Comprehensive Plan Update are expected from the Town’s consultants over the next two weeks in the run-up to a public open house on Saturday, September 23 the Community Center.

The Town’s water policy guidance — the Ground and Surface Water Management Plan of 2020 — forms the basis of many of the key findings, goals, and action items relating to water in the Comprehensive Plan Update.

The water discussion will give residents a chance to learn more about this guiding document, also referred to as “One Island – One Water.” And to ask questions of the Town Board and WAC members responsible for developing and enacting water policies and regulations.

Please note: the meeting will end prior to the start of the Vigil of Hope, which takes place across the street at the Fiske Basketball Courts starting at 7 PM.
