There was a lot of swearing at the Town 2020 organizational meeting on Thursday as new Shelter Island officials took their oaths of office. And, they sorted out some details of running the government for another year.
Quaker Corner easement
After a public hearing, the Shelter Island Town Board agreed Friday to approve a proposed Sylvester Manor Quaker Corner easement. The Community Preservation Board recommended this conservation purchase, along with two others.
year-end CPF acquisitions maps
After public hearings Friday, the Shelter Island Town Board approved $4 million in year-end CPF acquisitions for about 30 acres of land.
The Town's Deer & Tick Committee has approved a three-year Deer & Tick Management Plan. It calls for a continuation of three strategies: culling the herd, killing ticks with chemicals, and educating the public about health hazards posed by overabundant deer and the ticks they carry.
