Community

Features and information about the community, including announcements, club activities, neighborhood news and work in support of the community by the Island’s many non-profits.

The Shelter Island Fireworks presents a Fireworks by Grucci show at Crescent Beach on Saturday, July 8. All are welcome to attend and also to support the nonprofit as it continues a longstanding Island tradition.
Nanette Lawrenson is the featured speaker at Union Chapel in the Grove for Historical Society Sunday. All are welcome to attend the interdenominational service on July 2, at 10:30 AM.
The 10th Annual Farm to Table Benefit at Sylvester Manor is Saturday, June 24, from 6 to 10:30 PM with cocktails, buffet dinner and dancing under tents alongside Gardiners Creek.
Union Chapel in the Grove is throwing open its doors, welcoming everyone to another summer season. Rabbi Dan Geffen of Temple Adas Israel is guest preacher for an interdenominational Homecoming/Heights Memorial service on Sunday, June 18, at 10:30 AM.
Sylvester Manor marks Juneteenth with Call Their Names, a ceremony at the Afro-Indigenous Burial Ground, where over 200 people of color are buried in unmarked graves.
Organizers seek volunteers to help set up Joey's Mile, the final stretch of the Shelter Island 10K footrace course. The flag-lined roadway honors the service and sacrifice of US Army 1st Lt. Joseph J. Theinert of Shelter Island and others who died serving in Iraq or Afghanistan.
National Poppy Day American Legion Auxiliary
In the spirit of service, join the American Legion Auxiliary on National Poppy Day by wearing or displaying poppies "to honor the fallen and support the living who have worn our nation's uniform." Get yours at shops around town or on Friday, May 26, from 4 to 7 PM, at Mitchell Post 281.
If you love a bargain for a good cause, mark your calendar for the Shelter Island Historical Society Tag Sale on Saturday, May 6 from 8:30 AM to 2 PM, rain or shine.
Tickets are on sale now for the 5th Annual Blast for CAST, a fundraiser for the Center for Advocacy, Support & Transformation.
If you've got items that you've been hanging onto for a tag sale, why not donate them to benefit the Shelter Island Historical Society?
