Looking for Juneteenth observances? Sylvester Manor offers a free 90-minute walking tour about the enslaved and free people of color who lived and toiled here, including many who were buried on the property. And, the nearby Southampton African American Museum hosts a two-day celebration.

The PTSA of Shelter Island has something special in store for little ghouls and goblins — a Halloween "Trunk or Treat" candy giveaway in the school parking lot, in addition to the parade and Smith Street trick or treating.
The local chapter of the League of Women Voters holds its annual meeting on Sunday, May 15, and all are welcome to join. The guest speaker is Nanette Lawrenson, executive director of the Shelter Island Historical Society, who will talk about the society's centennial.
All are welcome to attend a candlelight vigil for International Overdose Awareness Day. It takes place Wednesday, August 31 at 7 PM at the Fiske Field Basketball Courts.
