Children and Families

Shelter Island, with its leisurely pace and amazing places to explore, is a great place to be, no matter your age. But it’s especially delightful for children and families. Here you’ll find listings of programs and activities targeted at children and their families. However, many other Island activities welcome children. Here's a sign of summer: Little League registration is underway for Shelter Island baseball and softball fans ages 4 to 12. They play in the North Fork Little League system with home games typically at Fiske Field.
Camp Quinipet & Retreat Center, closed during 2020 due to the pandemic, opens summer 2021 registration on New Year's Day, as its executive director projects confidence in developing standards for safe operation.
Are you looking for a way to get your children outdoors afterschool? EcoDiscovery Experience has openings in its 2020 fall/winter session.
If you have a child ages 5 to 8 who loves to learn about the outdoors and nature, EcoDiscovery Experience offers three-hour sessions that meet two or three mornings per week, visiting various locations around the Island
Registration is underway for Shelter Island Recreation summer youth programs. Due to ongoing concerns relating to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Town isn't asking for payments at this time. Recreation staff will contact those who do register with more information as it becomes available.
