See works by Melody Guini this Saturday at Pure Soul boutique, where owner Sylma Cabrera is hosting a pop-up for the artist.

Born and raised in Buenos Aires, Guini will be painting new works and showcasing her talent in the garden at the back of the shop overlooking Chase Creek. Stop by on Saturday, June 26 between 11 AM and 5 PM.

Guini received a fine art degree in 2016 and then moved to the United States. She continued her studies at MassArt, the Massachusetts College of Art and Design, in Boston, and at the Art Students League of New York.

Her work mainly portrays life in diverse cultural settings, usually related to her travels or interest in indigenous communities in South America, Africa and India.

“Lately I’ve been drawn to have my work speak about the feminine using elements in nature that I most relate to,” she says on her website. “I find beauty in the dainty of things like the moon, water and in the silence of solitude. I relate the underwater with the emotional depth, perhaps the unconscious or even eternity and moon with the mother, the caring, who’s always there but rules the tides.

“In those moments of solitude is when I see the artwork stemming out so organically, either writing, sketching, painting or even doing digital art.”

Some readers may remember Guini from teaching Yoga at Shelter Island Yoga and Fitness previous summers, or perhaps via a sailing charter. She spends her time between Hawaii and Shelter Island.
