Annual faculty concert kicks off Perlman Music Program’s Summer Music School

The annual Faculty Concert, free and open to the public, kicks off the Perlman Music Program’s Summer Music School. It occurs under the performance tent on PMP’s Shore Road campus on Friday, June 30 at 7 PM.

With “The Littles” — students in the Perlman Music Program Summer Music School (see profiles here) — settled at the PMP Shelter Island campus, free weekly Works-in-Progress concerts will begin.

Starting on Saturday, July 1, at 7 PM, student Works-in-Progress concerts in PMP’s Performance Tent occur most Fridays and Saturdays through August 12.

One exception is on Friday, July 28, when PMP hosts its 2023 Summer Gala from 6 to 9 PM. There will be cocktails starting at 6 PM, a chorus and orchestra concert at 7 PM, and a seated dinner at 8 PM. Please follow this link for tickets.

Summer Music School

The Summer Music School is PMP’s signature program. It welcomes gifted violin, viola, and cello students ages 12 to 18 into a richly supportive musical community.

Each summer, about 35 young musicians from around the world come together for a seven-week residency at PMP’s waterfront Shore Road campus. Admissions are based solely on talent. PMP doesn’t turn away students due to an inability to pay.

The heart of PMP’s teaching philosophy lies in the development of the whole person. A rigorous yet inclusive and nurturing approach encourages each student to take risks and discover their voice.

PMP’s world-class faculty, led by acclaimed violinist Itzhak Perlman, oversee a curriculum of solo, chamber music, and orchestral repertoire at the highest level.

Once it admits them, PMP welcomes students into a lifelong artistic family, inviting them back to camp every summer through the age of 18, and including them in other programs as they grow in their music careers.

Works-in-Progress concerts

Students may perform in Works-in-Progress concerts (WIPs) with their teacher’s approval. These provide opportunities to play recital and chamber music repertoire, attended by a warm and welcoming local audience in an outdoor performance tent.

WIPs are free and open to all.

Members of the Virtuoso Society may reserve seats by calling 212-877-5045 or emailing specialevents@perlmanmusicprogram.org.
