NWS: Snow expected, 1 to 3 inches possible

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for snow expected Monday, with possible accumulations of 1 to 3 inches. Coastal flooding may occur, too.

Look for snow between 10 AM and 4 PM, and be aware of slippery road conditions, the NWS said in an advisory posted around 4 AM on Monday, January 3.

Skies will be cloudy all day, with the temperature falling to around 30 degrees by 5 PM. However, the wind will be northwest around 17 to 22 miles per hour, so it’ll feel much colder. The NWS said that wind chill values should be between 15 and 20 degrees.

Overnight into Tuesday, there should be gradual clearing with a low around 21 with a blustery north wind of 15 to 22 miles per hour creating wind chill values between 10 and 15 degrees.

Shelter Island is part of a coastal flood advisory zone through 2 PM Monday. The NWS expects up to one foot of inundation about ground level in vulnerable areas near the waterfront and shoreline.
